The Papaya Young Directors competition is the only initiative in Europe that allows young and aspiring creatives to make their way directly into advertising and filmmaking.
All that you have to do to participate in the sixth edition of PYD is submit a director’s treatment drafted around creative starters put forth by participating brands. Finished films will premiere at a special gala in June 2019. The prize pool total for the 2019 edition of PYD is over 100,000 PLN.
Participants of the sixth edition of the competition will create ads for nine brands in two categories. The main category will include brands such as Allegro, BGŻ BNP Paribas, Coca-Cola, Decathlon, Desperados, Durex, McDonald’s, and Nationale-Nederlanden. The music video category, this year’s addition to the competition, will be overseen by Żywiec and its Męskie Granie project.
The best treatments will be selected by a diverse jury composed of leading figures of the advertising, film, and music industries, including creative directors from major advertising agencies, as well as directors, cinematographers, set designers, and post-production specialists.
Over the past year, Papaya Young Directors has also broadened its educational efforts. The competition itself has been preceded by a number of workshops focused on writing treatments, as well as a series of meetings with representatives of sponsor brands. We held a series of workshops in key arts and film schools in Poland and abroad, including at the London Film School and the Ravensbourne University London, which were attended by such highly acclaimed figures as Toby Dye and Tomas Jonsgården. We also launched #PYDMASTERTALKS, a video platform-slash-inspiration source featuring talks from top names in art, film, and advertising, with the speakers sharing their expertise and experiences with aspiring filmmakers.
