Developed over many months, the animated short was created with nothing but pictures from Google Earth25.01.2019
Epoch is a hypnotizing short produced by Kevin McGloughlin, an Irish visual artist.
Developed using stop-motion animation, the animated short took months to make. The motion and patterns comprising the film emerge from the meticulous and ingenious arrangement of thousands of overhead satellite pictures that McGloughlin sourced from Google Earth.
Epoch is a visual representation of our connection to earth and its vulnerable glory. Our time here is esoteric, limited and intangible. The fragility which exists in all aspects of life is one thing that is certain.
Interestingly, Kevin McGloughlin’s twin brother, Páraic is also a visual artist who uses Google Earth in his projects. One of these efforts, Arena, premiered just last year.
