It was a record-breaking year for cinemas around the world28.12.2018
The American analytics company Comscore which specializes in the entertainment industry has just published its annual box office roundup.
Despite the growing share of streaming services in the film market, 2018 was the most profitable year in history for cinemas. Global ticket sales totaled USD 41.7 billion. Which constitutes a 2.7% increase over the previous year.
The numbers point to a definite trend – people go to see movies often, but they usually pick blockbusters. This record-breaking number is mostly the work of superhero productions.
Atop the box office podium sits the blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War. It made over USD 2.048 billion worldwide. The runner up is another Marvel Studios production, Black Panther, which made USD 1.346 billion. The third spot went to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (USD 1.305 billion), and the fourth to Incredibles 2 (USD 1.243 billion).
